Diamond Buying Tips

1) Don't assume that a diamond with a brand name is better then a generic one. A diamond value is determined based on its inherent characteristics like weight, color, clarity, etc. Anyone can inscribe a brand name on a diamond but it does not increase the diamond's value

2) Shop around and compare per carat price for diamonds from different sources and not per stone prices. Always compare diamonds of the same shape, size, color, clarity and cut quality

3) Make sure expansive diamonds come with a lab report or certification papers. Lab reports provide an independent assessment of diamond weight, proportions, color, clarity and would give you a piece of mind in knowing exactly what you are paying for

4) For everyday wear avoid I2 and I3 clarity diamonds as they may be fragile. It is better to buy a diamond with a clarity of SI2 or higher. If you have a low budget, go for lower color grades. It will be rather difficult to tell the difference once the stone is mounted

5) If possible establish a relationship with the jeweler you can trust and who looks after your welfare. She can help you find buys that you wouldn't on your own
